To tell the world a little about Achille Castiglioni, 100 years after his birth, 3D productions has created a documentary, the main theme of which is a long and largely unpublished interview which took place in 1999 in his Milan studio in Piazza Castello. Castiglioni is surrounded by his objects and above all by a surprising amount of knick-knacks, which he collected over his lifetime. He tells us about himself with generosity and humour. What is surprising is his desire to critically observe reality, to find new solutions, to be amazed and astonished. We observe his amused and laughing eyes as he explains why he collected empty cans, Codd-neck bottles, springs, plastic cups for children. The documentary continues, leading us to follow one of the many guided tours of the Foundation along with Achille’s daughter Giovanna. And, among others, the architect Patricia Urquiola, who was his student at the Milan Politecnico, and who is engaged in the preparation of the celebratory exhibition at the Triennale.

“We have five senses with which we orientate ourselves in the material world. And then there’s a sixth sense, shared by all humans, which is the one that can open us to other dimensions”. This idea runs as a leitmotiv through Nanda Vigo’s collection of works. Fascinated by the possible existence of other inhabited worlds, Vigo constructs new ones with her art collection and lets us enter into her “cosmic life”, a life of objects that capture and texturize light. By getting rid of the space/time dichotomy, light constructs chronotopic settings where Vigo celebrates the “freedom from materialism” and plays with abstract shapes. Her digging deeper, and discovering something new every time, opens our eyes well. Marco Poma’s latest documentary combines clips from his other previous films on Vigo, with no claim to be a thorough study of her, since, as the director says, this is “just another film that wanders towards a… non-destination”.
